>It is very difficult to have an athlete technically fail to achieve their ultimate goal, while they are in the midst of performing better than they ever thought possible. This was the case for both Ingrid Kantola, and Jason Hoggan last weekend. Ingrid finished four points from a qualifying spot, and Jason just three. Ingrid simply put together one of the most technically perfect, and well executed competition performances that I have personally witnessed. Jason was downright electric while he battled back from a thirty-sixth place finish on Event 3 (a pacing error that I must take the blame for), and won two of the final three events.

Ingrid and Jason were great. Watching them was a pleasure, and knowing they were performing at the highest possible level reassures me that last weekend was in no way a “failure”. No excuses, no bad judging, no complaints about the workouts, no reason for them to hang their heads—they will continue to train and improve, and hopefully next year’s leaderboard will be more kind.
